Insta360 X6 Officially Launches; Bigger Sensors, 8K50 Recording, And AI Editing
Insta360 has officially launched the X6, its latest flagship 360 camera and successor to last year’s X5. The new model brings larger sensors, faster processing and several new shooting modes while retaining the core 8K 360-degree recording capability.
One of the biggest upgrades is the move to dual 1/1.1-inch Sony square sensors, up from the 1/1.28-inch sensors used by the X5. Insta360 claims the new sensors provide 33% more sensor area and roughly four times the light intake per frame, with the company also introducing a new low-light mode and AdaptiveTone 2.0 for improved exposure and dynamic range.
The camera is capable of recording 8K 360-degree video at up to 50fps, while its single-lens mode can capture 5K at 60fps or 4K at 120fps for slow-motion footage. It also supports 10-bit video, Dolby Vision and I-Log, giving users more flexibility for colour grading.
Three Cameras In One
Insta360 is also positioning the X6 as a three-in-one camera. Its InstaFrame 2.0 mode can track people, pets and other subjects to produce conventional flat 4K footage, while the camera can also be used as a traditional single-lens action camera.
For 360-degree recording, users can capture the entire scene first and reframe it later. FlowState stabilisation and 360 Horizon Lock are also used to keep footage smooth and level.
The X6 can also be paired with accessories such as the optional Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, which adds joystick controls for gimbal-style shooting without requiring a separate gimbal. Insta360 also offers a POV Head Tracker that allows the camera’s framing to follow the user’s eyeline.
AI Capabilities
Another addition is Insta360 PanoMind, an AI system designed specifically to understand 360-degree footage. The company says it was trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage covering scenarios such as travel, cycling, motorcycling and diving.
Its AI Director feature can analyse footage stored on the camera and automatically produce a highlight video while the X6 is charging. Additionally, the processing is performed on the camera rather than in the cloud, and the feature can be disabled if users prefer to handle the editing themselves.
For users who want more control, Auto Edit 2.0 can automatically handle framing, camera movements, cuts, music and transitions. Insta360 also offers Moments Pro through its cloud service, allowing users to generate videos based on descriptions such as the desired subject, mood, style and timeframe.
Battery Life, Storage, And Replaceable Lenses
The X6 uses a 2,600mAh Xtreme Battery, providing up to 140 minutes of 8K30 360-degree recording. It can also fast-charge from empty to 80% in 24 minutes and operate at temperatures as low as -20°C. Storage-wise, the X6 comes with 64GB of built-in storage, of which 47GB is usable, allowing users to record without a microSD card.
The camera also retains the Replaceable Lens system, with Insta360 claiming that its new Replaceable Lens 2.0 is five times more scratch-resistant and 60% cheaper to replace than the previous generation. The X6 itself is waterproof to 20 metres without a case and up to 60 metres when paired with the Invisible Dive Case Pro.
Price And Availability
In Malaysia, the Insta360 X6 is available in white and black colourways, and is priced at RM2,899 on its own. Meanwhile, the Essentials Bundle costs RM3,199. It will be available through the brand’s official website and Shopee store.
Insta360 adds that those who purchase and activate the X6 before 30 September 2026 will also receive one year of Insta360+ Premium with 500GB of storage. Buyers will also get three months of Moments Pro, which provides two clips per month, at no additional cost.
