Cyberpunk 2077 rival Neo Berlin 2087 gets thrilling first-look

As Gamescom rapidly approaches, the next wave of games that didn’t feature at any of the platform-exclusive showcases are set to put their talents on display.

There were some glaring omissions from the Xbox and PlayStation showcases in June, leaving Gamescom as the likely landing spot for fresh teasers for new games that have flown under the public radar.

One of those studios hitting Gamescom hard is Elysium Game Studio, and now they’ve fired their bullet early by releasing a new trailer for their upcoming punk-inspired thriller Neo Berlin 2087.

And after already boasting an excited fan base, the new trailer has only heightened the expectations, as comparisons to juggernaut franchises have been made.

New Neo Berlin 2087 trailer blows fans away ahead of Gamescom

Dubbed as a mix between a sci-fi futuristic RPG and a gripping conspiracist mysery, Neo Berlin 2087 has quickly attracted attention ahead of its full reveal this month.

Drawing instant parallels to Cyberpunk 2077 due to its luminous neon visuals – it seems every house in the future will be donned by pink LEDs – a first glimpse at Neo Berlin 2087 raised very high expectations. Given the quality of the rival it is chasing, it must take a solid game to have the guile to paste the palette and stick an extra ten years on for good measure.

Yet the gameplay is said to be much akin to the likes of LA Noire, as you’re hurled into the middle of a cinematic detective thriller.

The new trailer offers an insight into the gameplay and setting, exploring the chasm of social warfare as wealth and class have torn Berlin to pieces.

“Reconstruct memories across crime scenes, uncover what’s gone undetected, and switch between first-person and third-person perspectives on the fly to support any playstyle,” the description reads.

But the fresh look shows even more inspiration from other franchises like Deus Ex and Max Payne, with fans claiming the gameplay lives up to the games’ high potential.

Another added, “Definitely looks better than the gameplay we got like 2 years ago.”

A third fan said, “Notable improvements have been done, this is better than past videos. The dark cyberpunk detective ambiance is amazing. A must-buy.

Neo Berlin 2087 has been in development for years, with its latest trailer serving as a reminder that hard work is being poured into the dark-punk title.

Now announced to be officially releasing in 2028, players on Steam and Epic Games can add Neo Berlin 2087 to their wishlists. It will also be playable on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
